Today, we will be looking at classifying things into vertebrates and invertebrates.


Animal phyla can be classified into the following categories;

Poriferans

Cnidarians

Annelids

Echinoderms

Nemotodes

Platyhelminths

Molluscs

Arthropods

Chordates

Chordates include all animals that have a vertebrate with a nerve cord (spine and spinal cord) running down their backs (this is how they get their name).

Chordates can be classified into the following classes;

- chordates without backbones

- agnatha

- chondrichthyes (Liam and Sean)

- osteichthyes (Brenna and Medinha)

- amphibians (Leah and Abbie, Brayden and Hayden) (Jesse and Daniel)

- reptiles (Liza and Shona)

- aves (Ethan and Brendan)

- mammals (Topsy and Charlie - placentals) (Bree, Caitlin and Kelsey - marsupials) (Christie and Haylee - monotremes)


YOUR TASK:

In pairs, you will need to research one of the classes above. Investigate what characteristics they have in common, then include information on a specific animal that belongs to the class you have researched. Use the template below to get started.
